Notes of verbs
A verb means an action or a state or an existence which tells about the action of the subject i.e. noun or pronoun.
We study English grammar. (Action)
We celebrate Republic day. (Event)
I sleep at night. (State)

Some more examples to understand verb:-
He was determined to accomplish the task.
Rohan swims in the swimming pool every day.
He had a good offer in his hand.
In the above given sentences, ‘was determined’, ‘swims’ and ‘had’ show some actions. They are called verbs.

Types of Verbs:
Verbs are of two types:
1. Main Verbs
2. Helping Verbs/Auxiliaries

1. Main Verbs:
Finite verb
Non-finite verb
Transitive verb
Intransitive verb
Causative verb

2. Helping verb:
Primary auxiliary
Modal auxiliary

Main Verbs:
Main verbs are used to express action i.e. an animal, a person or a thing does.
Examples:-
The sun shines.
Birds fly.
The horse neighs.
The monkey jumps.
In the above sentences, we can see main verb in each sentence to express the action.

Finite verb:
Finite verbs are those which change the sentence according to the tenses like past, present or future as well as of the number singular or plural.This verb justifies the state of subject.
Example:-
She enjoys the birthday party.
She enjoyed the birthday party.
She will enjoy the birthday party.
Here, the underlined verbs are enjoys, enjoyed and will enjoy in the sentences, represent the different conditions according to the tenses are called Finite verb.

Non-finite verb:
It remains constant. It does not change.
Example:-
I have to help him.
She has to go to Lucknow.
Here, the underlined verbs are Help and Go in the sentences which represent the non-finite verbs.

Transitive verb:
It takes object after it. Like: Rohan bought (what?). Here, it is necessary to give full information about the object like Rohan bought a red carpet.
Ex:-He caught the bus.
She baked a cake.
The teacher made the question paper.
Ashish cut the cake.

Intransitive verb:
It does not take object after it. It does not require an object to make a sense. Like: Birds fly.
Ex:- He laughed.
He disappeared after the party.
It is a verb which does not require an object to make complete sense.

Causative verb:
It explains the reason that something happened. It helps the subject got someone or something else to do for them.
Like: let (allow, permit), make (force, require), have, get, and help.
Let me know.
Let us go to park.
She makes her family happy.
My father allows me to attend the concert.

Helping verb:
It helps the main verb to change its form is called Auxiliary Helping Verb. It is of two types:-
 Primary auxiliary
 Modal auxiliary

Primary auxiliary:
There are three primary auxiliaries: to be, to have, and to do. These three words perform special functions.
Be:
Is, am, are, was, were
She is a doctor.
Do:
Do, does, did
He did cooking.
Have:
Has, have, and had
They have a car.

Modal auxiliary:
Modal auxiliary includes Can, could, may, might, will, shall, should, would, ought to, must, etc. These modal verbs are used to express emotions, abilities, possibilities, obligation, etc.
Uses of Should:
It is used to express moral obligation and formal information.
Example:
One should do one’s duty.
Students should answer all the questions.

Should is used with lest:
Example:
He works hard, lest he should fail.

Ought to:
It is used to express moral duty or advice.
Example:
You ought to respect your elders.
He ought to apologies.

Use first form of verb i.e. V1 with modal auxiliaries.
Example:- We can win the competition.
My friend can help me.

Different forms of helping verbs are used with different subjects.
Example:- Three were intelligent but one was dull.
